Carter van Dyke ASLA

President & Founding Partner / Adjunct Professor, Carter van Dyke Associates / Tyler School of Art, Department of Landscape Architecture and Horticulture, Temple University

As a graduate student Mr. van Dyke worked with Ian McHarg on the development of the Medford Study, which was the first environmental impact study of a municipality used to create environmentally based planning and zoning laws. Mr. van Dyke translated the study into new planning and zoning initiatives. Later, Mr. van Dyke worked at the Bucks County Planning Commission where he helped develop Performance Zoning, which was based upon Ian McHarg’s Design with Nature. These performance zoning standards, from Ian McHarg's vision, became the new standards for environmental protection and innovative planning techniques that have been copied world-wide.
