The East Midtown Greenway was one of the most complex gaps of the Manhattan Greenway in New York City. It is built entirely on structure and overwater. This session explores how landscape architects played a critical role in collaborating with the client and engineers to create a stunning greenway.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the importance of early and frequent collaboration with multiple disciplines and the landscape architect's role in those early discussions.
  • Learn ideas for approaching collaboration on a multidisciplinary and diverse client team with conflicting priorities.
  • Understand the importance of green space and shade in challenging spaces.
  • Understand the value of evaluating the project from every angle, seeking opportunities in project challenges, and advocating beyond the landscape architect's scope.
