This session will present findings from ongoing research and testing of AI tools within the field of landscape architecture. It will explore the impact of firm-level AI policies, implementation roadmaps, chatbots, generative tools, and specific applied methods for design, production, construction, management, and operations.
Learning objectives:
- Understand how to explore and implement AI tools into practice.
- Learn the various tools that can impact operations, including how AI can potentially assist with QAQC, HR documents, and more.
- Understand the challenges associated with using AI for practice, including firm AI policy, how to best invest into AI for best returns, and the challenge that automated tools pose to the profession.
- Learn about specific resources, links, websites, apps, tutorials, and methods, which will be covered and provided as a takeaway to assist attendees pushing their own AI R&D.
Daniel Tal, FASLA

Daniel Tal, FASLA, has almost 30 years of experience in landscape architecture. He leads the Digital Studio at Confluence, focusing on AI solutions in the field. Daniel has authored three books published by Wiley and Sons, covering topics like SketchUp for site design, drones in professional practice, and rendering techniques. As a software developer, he created PlaceMaker and UrbanPaint, AI and parametric powered tools for 3D modeling. Daniel frequently presents at national conferences, sharing his expertise in 3D modeling and AI applications in landscape architecture. His website, danieltal.com, offers free SketchUp tutorials and resources for students and professionals alike.
Jenn Becker, ASLA

Jenn Becker is an accomplished designer, 3D modeler and has run her own Digital 3D and drone studio at FLOW in Denver, Colorado. Jenn co-manages the digital studio with Daniel Tal, FASLA, at Confluence. Becker is acknowledged as Confluences Ai expert with a continues mandate to study Ai.
Her tasks co-managing the digital studio and running point on Ai include, managing 13 drone pilots across nine offices, daily Ai R&D and providing a bi-monthly newsletter to firm leadership on Ai results. Jenn attends Ai conferences, meets with Ai companies and develops resources for the deployment of Ai tools
Donnie Longenecker, ASLA, PLA

Donnie Longenecker is a landscape architect, entrepreneur and educator. Currently he is the director of undergraduate programs, internship coordinator and director of continuing education at the University of Georgia College of Environment and Design (UGA CED.) During his time at UGACED, he has taught almost every course in the BLA curricula. His design studios have focused on helping organizations and municipalities with big dreams and small budgets. He also teaches professional practice and storm water management. Each year, UGA's continuing education programs provide continuing education and LARE exam prep for over 150 registered and aspiring landscape architects.
