Biodiverse landscapes provide multiple benefits that are superior to those provided by traditionally designed urban spaces. Research has shown the health benefits of green spaces in cities and current research explores the additional benefits of biodiverse urban spaces. At the same time, multiple studies have demonstrated that in many cities, equitable access to nature is still a challenge to be addressed. This webinar explores these topics and provides a primer for designers and practitioners in addressing these issues in their projects.
Learning objectives:
- Upon completion, participants will be able to define the current state of knowledge regarding the health benefits of urban nature.
- Participants will be able to identify the equity issues related to access to nature in cities and apply that knowledge to their own projects.
- Participants will understand the complexity of supporting biodiversity in urban and landscape design projects and their relationship to equitable access to nature.
