For thousands of years, stone has been used to craft landscapes of enduring beauty. As project performance demands, applications, and complexity increase, consideration must be given to ensure the longevity of stone installations. This session examines the considerations, best practices, and detailing techniques to safeguard installations for generations to come.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the characteristics of natural stone and the impact of climate and weather conditions on natural stone paving durability.
  • Learn the specific criteria that should be evaluated when determining the suitability of a particular stone for a project.
  • Discover best practices, techniques, and details to create durable assemblies that ensure the longevity of natural stone installations.
  • Through the evaluation of a case study, understand why natural stone assemblies fail, and learn how to avoid these pitfalls through proper planning, installation, and maintenance.
