Featuring a cross-disciplinary discussion, this session will seek to educate and motivate practitioners by elevating the conversation about the role of landscape architecture for potential clients in the public and private sectors. Attendees will learn how to position their business through case studies, industry video interviews, and personal insights.
Learning objectives:
- Learn how clients, developers, and agencies evaluate the role of landscape architecture for projects—and understand how to engage in the conversation.
- Identify the myriad means of researching and uncovering project opportunities through networking, business development practices, and self-promotion.
- Learn strategies for successfully converting leads into projects through self-assessment, strategic opportunity evaluation, and targeted proposal response.
- Understand the importance of interdisciplinary connection and collaboration.

As managing partner at Martha Schwartz Partners, Kimberly oversaw strategic planning and global business development for the international landscape architecture firm, successfully opening MSP's NYC office in 2016. Active in ASLA since 2012, she holds board positions with the New York State Council of Landscape Architects (NYSCLA), the Alliance for Public Space, and MetroHort LLC. She also co-chairs the ASLA-NY Advocacy Committee. A 2018 MLA graduate of Rutgers University, she extends her expertise by teaching landscape at the NYBG and BBG botanical gardens, showcasing a commitment to both professional and educational spheres.

Jason Schupbach is the Dean of the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design at Drexel University. He is a nationally recognized expert in the role that arts and design play in improving communities, and was the federal liaison to the design community in his role as Director of Design and Creative Placemaking Programs for the National Endowment for the Arts. He has held multiple other academic, government and foundation positions.

His designs are not egotistical sculptures, but instead about the experience of the user and aim to create environments that harmoniously coexist within their surroundings while substantially improving the quality of existing public and private spaces
