All spaces, whether designed for landscape performance or for human experience, require continued care after installation, and that care is informed by the comprehensive process of landscape architecture. In this session, three practitioners share their insights into adaptive management and strategic intervention, which they have refined to achieve long-term design goals.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand how post-occupancy evaluations and ongoing collaboration help bridge the gap between design intent and long-term site conditions.
  • Compare static maintenance manuals to seasonal walkthrough reports to learn best practices to balance design vision and landscape evolution.
  • Recognize how owners, clients, and institutional staff collaborate with consultants and practitioners on the long-term care and management of designed landscapes.
  • Gain an understanding of governance and funding options for operational sustainability.
