A century before the term existed, Central Park already served as a critical piece of green infrastructure. With accelerating climate change and persistent environmental inequities, its role has only become more essential. Park stewards are implementing a strategy to benefit adjacent neighborhoods and contribute to a larger climate action dialogue.

Learning objectives:

  • Learn how to establish consistent metrics and realistic and implementable goals for tracking the reduction in carbon impacts for park-scale landscape projects.
  • Gain insight into the planning and institutional process involved in establishing an organization-wide framework for sustainability.
  • Learn about the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing sustainability and carbon impact reduction measures in a historic landmark park.
  • Explore the role of water resource planning and stormwater management in climate adaptation and enhanced resilience.
