Low-maintenance landscapes present a challenge for material choices. This session will discuss what is effective for material choice for public projects and other low-maintenance environments, along with the sustainability behind material choices. We will also discuss successful detailing with reused or recycled materials in public spaces.
The GBCI course ID for this course is 920028670, providing SITES-specific CE hours required to maintain SITES AP credentials. Participants will need to pass the exam at the end of the presentation in order to receive a certificate of completion. Participants will need to self-report CE hours through their credentials account on https://sitesonline.usgbc.org.
Learning objectives:
- Examine successful examples of innovative hardscape and softscape for public projects with low-maintenance environments.
- Discuss the sustainable sourcing and environmental cost behind material selection, along with options and processes for selecting and sourcing sustainable materials.
- Look at examples of successfully reused or recycled materials in publicly accessible space.
- Gain insight into the value of material choice for both project longevity and larger global sustainability goals.
