Through select case studies from Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau, this talk will explore how landscape architects can forge partnerships with nonprofits, local governments, and private landowners to set the stage for the protection of land areas that contribute to local and regional resilience.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the historical trends and present and future relevance of landscape architects' contributions to large-scale land management and protection.
- Contextualize opportunities and barriers for land protection in areas such as the Cumberland Plateau relative to natural resources, development projections, and current land ownership patterns.
- Outline basic concepts and tools for land protection and conservation.
- Demonstrate strategies for connecting local nonprofits, government representatives, and private landholders with landscape architects and with each other.
