Employers and employees should understand the value for licensure for both parties, as well as the profession as a whole. Four specific ways that employers can help employees become licensed-- including on-the-job training in areas such as contract management, will be discussed-- as well as how employees can ask for assistance with the exam as part of their benefits package.

She is President of Susan Hatchell Landscape Architecture, PLLC, a woman-owned business dedicated to public works such as parks, downtowns and streetscapes. With offices in Raleigh and Wilmington, SHLA has served the citizens of North Carolina in small, disadvantaged and minority communities for the past 28 years on a wide range of projects. Susan is Past President of the ASLA, a member of the Leaders Council at North Carolina State University, and a tireless advocate for the profession.

Rachel McIntyre, ASLA

Rachel McIntyre, PLA, ASLA, Associate Transportation Planner, WMPO. Rachel is an emerging professional who recently passed the LARE. She has a master's degree in landscape architecture from NC State University and obtained her landscape architecture license in 2020. As Associate Transportation Planner for the Wilmington Urban Area MPO (WMPO), Rachel is involved in the transportation planning process at the regional level, including the production of long-range planning documents that prioritize projects across all modes for federal funding. Prior to joining the WMPO, she worked on downtown master plans, streetscapes, and public transportation projects with Susan Hatchell Landscape Architecture, PLLC.

Adriana Hernandez Aguirre, Associate ASLA

Growing up in Mexico, Adriana Hernandez Aguirre pursued a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture at Texas A&M University. As a Student Chapter President in 2018, a 2019 National Olmsted Scholar Finalist, and 2020-2021 ASLA National Student Representative, Adriana has developed a passion for landscape architecture, advocacy, and climate action. In 2020, Adriana joined Coleman & Associates Landscape Architecture Firm in Austin, Texas. Similarly, Adriana is a member of the workshop GND Superstudio, a team of emerging professionals interested in the intersection of policy, community, design activism, and resilient landscapes. Adriana also conducts independent research on Las Colonias in Laredo, Texas.
